The Orange Ribbon Walk is an annual national event to foster social cohesion in Singapore’s multi-racial and multi-religious society. The theme ‘Rise Against Racism’ will be a rallying call for Singaporeans to come together to make a stand against prejudices.
Leading up to the Orange Ribbon Walk, OnePeople.sg will engage people from different cultures and nationalities in conversations to enhance mutual understanding. These ‘Tea@Harmony Garden’ conversations will be a platform to share personal experiences, and provide an opportunity to address some of the stereotypes and misconceptions pertaining to race and religion. Participants will have the opportunity to gain greater cultural knowledge, to enable them to serve as role models and advocates in their own community.
The main event on 11 Nov will feature a 3.8km walk around the civic district in show of support for racial harmony and social cohesion. There will be a carnival at the start/finish line highlighting cultural performances open to all, and members of the public can visit booths showcasing local ethnic games and cultures.
Visit the Orange Ribbon Walk 2017 website for more information on the programme.
